  • A: Yes, you can and should go for a swim in the stream and pond along its path Besides the breathtaking views of the mountain and the valley, the stream is crystal clear, fresh, and not too cold, thus perfect for a swim during your hike. However, be aware that flash floods are a fact of life on the island, especially here. Pay attention to the weather, and if you notice any change in the color or level of the water, seek higher ground right away. The West Maui Mountains are notorious for rapidly changing weather and flash floods.
  • A: This is the perfect way for visitors of all fitness levels to explore and enjoy the park. The Iao Needle Lookout Trail is an easy .6 mile trail with a total elevation gain of just 200 feet. You will wind your way through lush forests and end up at a scenic lookout point. You can also jump onto the adjacent ethnobotanical garden loop that takes you along Iao stream. Although the trail is short, there's lots to do along the way, like swimming, picnics and photography. Plan to spend anywhere from 1-3 hours at Iao Valley depending upon your interests.
